Late 2013 Chevrolet announced the 5th generation of the mighty Z/28. There was a collective sigh of relief from the die hard Camaro nation. It was finally back! The name that spans all generations, survived the gas embargo of the 70's, and lived through the dark ages of performance of the 80's. The Z/28, a name that transcends generations of gear heads, stories passed down from father to son, with late nights in garages hunched over fenders working on their Z28 or Z/28. From the road course, drag strip, autocross track, to the street, the Z/28 has been a formidable foe for any car pulling up next to one. But, this time is was special, over the top, expensive, and a little bit crazy. A heavy, dated 5th generation Camaro chassis emerged from Chevrolet as a Supercar contender, no...a Supercar slayer. Chevrolet pulled out all the stops. Stuffed the 7.0 liter LS7 dry sump engine backed by a TR6060, shod all four corners with steam roller Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires, spool valve shocks / struts, stuck an oversized chin spoiler on the front, and endowed "Steve" with 15 inches of carbon ceramic brakes. Everything a Z/28 fanatic would add to their list if the General opened their garage for a day. The name alone is recognizable by any group of automotive enthusiasts.
